Hour of Code

Computer Science Education Week 2016 and the Hour of Code is December 5-11
Picture
"The goal of the Hour of Code is not to teach anybody to become an expert computer scientist in one hour. One hour is only enough to learn that computer science is fun and creative, that it is accessible at all ages, for all students, regardless of background. The measure of success of this campaign is not in how much CS students learn - the success is reflected in broad participation across gender and ethnic and socioeconomic groups, and the resulting increase in enrollment and participation we see in CS courses at all grade levels. Millions of the participating teachers and students have decided to go beyond one hour - to learn for a whole day or a whole week or longer, and many students have decided to enroll in a whole course (or even a college major) as a result."

The first Technology Playground was launched earlier this month at RES! The playground featured 11 devices/tools for teachers to learn and play with (see gallery of photos below).

The second Technology Playground, this time aimed at middle school ages, will be launched on the 28th of November. Following this, a third playground will be held at EES in December!

When will a playground be at your school? Contact your principal or Carol to get the ball rolling!

Picture That: Talking Photos

Keeping in the theme of using photos for technology projects, today I bring you one of my favorites --

Blabberize

Free to use!
  • Create/make without account.
  • However, if you want to save or share an account in needed.

Simple to use:
  1. Upload a photo
  2. Place a mouth (this is the most time intensive part if your image has a mouth -- but it doesn't have to have a mouth!)
  3. Record (if it is the first use, you will need to allow access to the microphone)
  4. Save/share (link, embed code and the ability to save a video)

Here is an example with a character that has a mouth:
And this example showcases an object without a mouth:
What will you Blabberize?
