Year End Review

5/22/2017

Honestly, I am not sure where the 2016-2017 school year went! It has been a wonderful year learning and growing with you all!

I (Carol) can't believe that a year ago I was ending my year and unsure of where I would be serving. All I knew was that I needed to move on and I really wanted to work in my passion area of educational technology. The year ended and summer began....June would come and go. Then July and an interview for the Education Technology Specialist position....my dream job. I held it together as I was offered the job, but burst into tears, after I accepted and hung up, as the emotions of it all hit. Not only did I have a job and would help provide for my family, but I had the job that I had longer for. This is the job that many other jobs had prepared me for and the one that I had dreamed of following receiving my masters in 2008.

Thank you for allowing me into your classrooms this year. Thank you for trusting this new comer, trying new things (breaking out), and adventuring as Jedi :)

I can't wait for our adventures in the 2017-2018 school year! My brain is already whirling around with ideas!
Below are a few images as I look back on the year --

Space Case

You've heard that the new MacBook Air will have less storage (250 vs 500). That might make you a little nervous....

Checking Available Space

1. Click on the Apple
2. Select "about this mac"

3. Select "storage"
4. Subtract the amount free from the total
Picture
Picture
Let's say 240 is free (in the ____). Then 500 - 240 = 260
The new computers will have 250 GB available.
In this example, the user is 10 GB over the new storage capacity.

Free Up Space

What is taking up the most space?
Look again at the storage example. In the example, there are two large color blocks (usage areas), "other" and "photos".
Photos, Movies and Audio take a lot of your storage!
1. Move personal photos, movies and audio onto a personal storage device.
2. Move school photos, movies and audio into Google Drive or another storage option (YouTube, Teacher Page on website, etc)

And make sure to take out the trash -- empty your trash :)
Just by emptying my trash, I cleared out 2 MB of "other" storage".

Utilize Google Drive

Move your files to Google Drive! It really is as simple as "drag and drop". In the example below, I created a folder to add my files to (you do not have to do this - I did it for organization).
Picture
Once the files are dropped in, you have them saved onto your Google Drive and they are accessible off most any device. You can remove the files from your computer and they will remain in Drive.

If you have a personal Drive account, you could move those personal photos, video, etc. onto that! Drive is great for keeping photos and videos!! Uploading videos to YouTube is also a good option. I keep my personal videos as "unlisted" or "private" - so I control who sees what!

Let me (Carol) know if you need help with freeing up space!
